Illinois International Graduate Achievement Award

This award recognizes a current graduate student (U.S. citizen or international), whose innovative and sustained international research or service abroad, undertaken through their University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign affiliated international experience, has had the greatest impact or greatest potential impact on the University or larger community.
The winner will receive a plaque and a $500 award to be presented at the International Awards Banquet in Spring 2010, sponsored by International Programs and Studies and hosted by the Chancellor’s Office.
Selection Criteria:
- Documented excellence in extending University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign knowledge or public service commitment such that the academic work or service has led to new or increased interaction between University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or an affiliated activity and a target country.
- Sustained and verifiable academic or service leadership in working with the public and/or external organization.
- Academic or service work should demonstrate innovation in working for the betterment and well-being of citizens and/or communities.
- Evidence of impact on target audience.
- Minimum 3.5 GPA.
Additional considerations:
- Demonstrated scholarly, professional, and/or personal growth as a result of the experience.
- Use of a language other than English proficiency in which was gained through language study at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or another accredited university.
- The level of direct interaction with local communities in other countries to undertake problem-solving.
Nominations can be made by faculty, staff, student peers, or students can self-nominate.
Note: This application will roll over for up to three academic years as long as the applicant continues to meet all of the eligibility requirements. Nominators will be given the opportunity to update and resubmit their application for up to three annual award cycles; however, applications do not have to be updated in order to be included in the next award cycle.
