The purpose of the program is to facilitate the development of new or substantially revised faculty-led study abroad programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (illinois). Frequently Asked Questions
What do the grant funds pay for?
In general, the funds will pay for allowable travel costs,
per diem, and related supplies for program development. The funds may also be used for Graduate
Assistant support in developing the program. You should plan to spend the grant
funds as you proposed in your budget.
What will the grant funds NOT pay for?
The funds are not intended to support faculty regular salary
or summer salary. The funds cannot be
used to subsidize students to participate in the study abroad program.
Will the Office of the APIA
or IPS pay for my expenses directly? How
do I access these funds?
We’d prefer that you process all expenses related to the
grant through your home department business office for reimbursement.Once copies of expenses are submitted to IPS,
we will reimburse the departmental account that bore the original expenses.
If you do not have a business office specific to your unit,
IPS can provide limited assistance in processing the funds.
Will the Office of the APIA
or IPS book my travel?
No.Please book the
travel directly or through someone in your home department.
Can I postpone travel funded by the grant?Do the funds “expire”?
Ideally, your travel should occur close to the time you
outlined in your proposal.The timing
can vary by a few months but if your trip has to be postponed significantly,
please contact our office for approval. You
will be asked to submit a revised itinerary.
The funds do not expire per se but with this is a very
competitive program so we’d expect the funds to be used within one year of
notification. We must also report on the
progress of the program to Campus so any significant delays could affect our
reporting.
What happens if I need to change the location of the proposed program?
If you have received a grant, the approval was based on the
destination you indicated in your proposal. If you need to change the
destination due to security concerns, logistical problems, or any other factors
not evident when you submitted your proposal, please contact IPS before you
make any arrangements.
